THE SOLING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP OPEN
BALATONFURED - HUNGARY
20 - 27 , APRIL , 2008.

Organising authority
The organising authority is the International Soling Class (ISA) in conjunction with the Hungarian Yachting Association , the Balatonfuredi Yacht Club and the Hungarian Soling Association.

1. Rules
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 The prescriptions of the Hungarian National Authority will not apply.
1.3 The ISA Championship Rules will apply.
1.4 The following racing rules will be changed: 28.1, 32, 35, 42.3(c), 60.1(a), 61.3, 62.2, A4.1, A4.2 and Race Signals AP and S. The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions.
1.5 Amendments to any of the rules applying to the regatta must be approved and signed by the ISA Liaison Officer appointed for the event.

2. Advertising category
The regatta is designated Category C under ISAF Regulation 20.

3. Eligibility and entry
3.1 The regatta is open to all yachts of the International Soling Class as prescribed in Championship Rule 4 – Eligibility.
3.2 ISA Membership is obligatory for all crew members. Membership fees will be collected from any crew member failing to present proof of previously paid membership fee.
3.3 It is also required that all yachts entering display the ISA sticker for the current year. An additional amount will be collected from the helmsman or representative of any yacht not displaying the ISA sticker of the current year at the appropriate position.
3.4 Eligible boats may enter by completing the entry forms on the event website, www.solingeuropeans.com no later than 31 March 2008, and by paying all fees due and registering at the Race Office on 19th or 20th April 2008.

4. Classification
The ISAF Sailor Classification Code will apply.

5. Fees
The entry fee will be 300 EUR + 35 GBP ( the ISA Championship fee) and may be paid in cash at the Race Office. The entry fee includes unlimited craning , mooring and two dinners.

6. Registration
The Race Office at the harbour of the HYA will be open for registration on 19-20.04.2008 from 10.00 to 16.00 hours.

7. Schedule
7.1 Measurement and inspection will take place at the harbour of the HYA on 19-21.04. 2008 from 10.00 to 16.00 hours
7.2 The event is scheduled as follows:
on 21th 04 at 18.00 hours opening and Welcome Party
on 22nd 04 Races
on 23rd 04 Races
on 24th 04 Races
on 25th 04 Races
on 26th 04 Last Race. After the Race Prize giving Ceremony and Dinner at 17.oo
on 27th 04 Reserve day / a Special Match Race
7.3 The first warning signal each day will be at 09.55 hours.
If two valid races are not sailed on any day, 3 races will be scheduled for the following day.




8. Measurement
Yachts will be measured in accordance with ISA Championship Rule 7.0 Measuring and Class Rules 16 and 17. For a yacht to be eligible to race, her valid (the original or a copy of the original) Measurement Form shall be presented at the Race Office, and the helmsman must have satisfied all measurement and registration requirements as specified in this Notice of Race including the submission (at the completion of measurement) of properly completed measurement work sheets. If the Measurement Form cannot be produced before the first race, RRS 78.2 will be applied.

9. Sailing instructions
Sailing Instructions will be available at registration.

10. Course area
Lake Balaton East bazin, see sketch enclosed

11. The courses
Standard ISA Championship courses will be used.

12. Penalty system
12.1 The Two-Turns Penalty, rule 44.2, will apply.
12.2 An International Jury will be appointed in accordance with RRS Appendix N. Their decisions will be final and not subject to appeal in accordance with RRS 70.4.

13. Scoring
13.1 The Low Points Scoring System of RRS A4 will apply.
13.2 9 races are scheduled of which 5 must be completed to constitute a valid championship.
13.3 a) When fewer than 6 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. b) When 6 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

14. Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to each of the crew members of the first six boats by medals and cups
Special perpetuel prizes will be awarded as follows:
- The European Championship Perpetual Trophy - donated by the Royal Danish Yacht Club “with the intention of bringing together as many competitors of various nationalities as possible for yacht racing in a friendly spirit”.
- The Royal Yacht Club of Sweden has also donated a trophy for the European Champion.
- The British Soling Association Trophy - donated by the British Soling Association and awarded to the best-placed helmsman aged 25 and under.
- The Reloaded Trophy – donated by ASF, Norway to the best-placed woman in the event.
- The Rien Segaar Trophy – donated by the Segaar Family to the best of the last, the third team of a country with the best overall score(sum of scores of three teams).



15. Disclaimer of liability
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any responsibility for any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

16. Insurance
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance cover while racing of not less than 200.000 EUR for the duration of the regatta.
