Notice of Race
VENUE
The Royal Yacht Club Hollandia and the Dutch Soling Class Association take pleasure in inviting you to participate in the 2005 European Championship, which will be held 7th – 12th August 2005, inclusive, and will be sailed on the IJsselmeer off Medemblik, the Netherlands.
The Organising Authority (OA) is the Royal Yacht Club Hollandia in conjunction with the International Soling Association and the Dutch Soling Class Association.
1 RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 No national authority prescriptions will apply.
1.3 The ISA Championship Rules will apply.
1.4 A Liaison Officer will be appointed in accordance with ISA Championship Rule 11.
1.5 The Sailing Instructions may contain minor changes to the Rules. The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions.
1.6 If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence.
2 ADVERTISING
Advertising will be restricted to Category C.
3 ELIGIBILITY
3.1 The regatta is open to all boats of the International Soling class as prescribed in ISA Championship Rule 4.
3.2 Eligibility in accordance with ISAF Regulation 19 – ISAF Eligibility Code – is required for any person who wants to compete in this regatta.
4 ENTRIES
4.1 Entries are to be made on the website: www.soling.com/europeans/2005/index.asp?Action=Entry%20Form&IDNEWS=11
4.2 Entry closing date: 1 August 2005.
4.3 The entry fee is € 400 (incl. craning and berthing, ex. ISA fee £35). The fee is payable by bank transfer and has to be paid before the entry closing date.

5 SCHEDULE
Schedule of races and events is as follows:

No warning signal will be given after 15.00 hours on Friday 12 August.
6 MEASUREMENTS
6.1 There will be no first-time measurements (including sails) at the regatta.
6.2 Boats will be measured in accordance with ISA Championship Rule 7.0 Measuring and Class Rules 16 and 17. For a boat to be eligible to race, her valid (the original or a copy of the original) Measurement Form shall be presented at the Race Office, and the helmsman must have satisfied all measurement and registration requirements as specified in the Notice of Race including the submission (at the completion of measurement) of properly completed measurement work sheets. If the Measurement Form cannot be produced before the first race, RRS 78.2 will be applied.
6.3 Only boats that have completed registration, paid the entry fee, and passed the prescribed measurement check procedure by Monday 8 August 12.00 hours are entitled to race.
6.4 All claims of damage requiring replacement shall be petitioned to the Jury in writing, and shall be required to pass a measurement check.
7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The sailing instructions will be available from Sunday 7 August 09.00 hours at the Regatta Office.
8 THE COURSE
8.1 Courses of the following type can be used:
• Windward-Leeward
• Windward-Leeward-Triangle
8.2 The time limit will be 180 minutes.
8.3 The racing area will be the IJsselmeer off Medemblik.
9 PENALTY SYSTEM
Decisions of the Jury will be final as provided in Rule 70.4.
10 SCORING
10.1 7 races are scheduled of which 5 must be completed to constitute a valid championship.
10.2 (a) When fewer than 6 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores
(b) When 6 or 7 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

11 BERTHING
Boats shall be kept in their assigned places in the Regatta Center harbor.
12 HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS
Boats shall be afloat by Monday 8 August 13.00 hours and not be hauled out during the regatta except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the Jury.
13 REGATTA OFFICE
13.1 The regatta office inside the ISCM will be open for registration from Sunday 7 August 09.00 hours.

Harbor:
Regatta Center Medemblik (RCM)
13.2 Medemblik is a medieval town with some very small roads. Please start following the white road signs to the recreation site “Vooroever” (later on follow: harbor “Regatta Center Medemblik”) before entering the town of Medemblik.
14 COACH and SUPPORT BOATS
14.1 All coach and support boats shall be registered at the Regatta Office. Registration shall be done at least 30 minutes before the start of the first race.
14.2 By Dutch Law, all motor boats which are able to drive more than 20 km/hour shall be registered with the Dutch Authorities. Registration can be done at any Dutch post office.
14.3 By Dutch Law, drivers of these boats are required to have “Klein Vaarbewijs II”. Most police officers will be kind to non-Dutch drivers, provided the boat has been registered, and the driver is in the possession of the equivalent license (sea) in his/her country.
15 PRIZES
Prizes will be given according to the ISA Championship rules.
- The European Championship Perpetual Trophy - donated by the Royal Danish Yacht Club with the intention of bringing together as many competitors of various nationalities as possible for yacht racing in a friendly spirit”. - The Royal Yacht Club of Sweden has also donated a trophy for the European Champion. - The British Soling Association Trophy - donated by the British Soling Association and awarded to the best-placed helmsman aged 25 and under.
16 DISCLAIMER of LIABILITY
16.1 The Organizing Authority, and any other party involved in the organization of the regatta will not accept any liability whatsoever for loss, material or personal damage (including but not limited to death, injury, consequential damages, etc.) sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta.
16.2 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See Rule 4, “Decision to Race”.
17 INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of € 500.000 per event or the equivalent. Before the first race each boat shall show (a copy of) her insurance certificate, which shall indicate the amount covered for third party liability.

The IJsselmeer has fresh water without tide or current.
There are no obstructions in the racing area of the RYC Hollandia, which is considered one of the most beautiful in Europe.
