THE SOLING NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2017
This event will take place at the Milwaukee Yacht Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, from August 24 to August 27, 2017
Organizing Authority
The organizing authority is the International Soling Class (ISA) with the National Authority the United States Soling Association (USSA) in conjunction with the Milwaukee Yacht Club.
1. Rules
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 The prescriptions of the United States National Authority will not apply, however, per the US Sailing Prescription to RRS 88.2, U.S. prescriptions 60.3, 61.4, 67 and 76.1 must be in force.
1.3 The ISA Class and Championship Rules will apply.
1.4 The following racing rules will be changed: 28.1, 31, 32, 35, 42.3(c), 44.1, 60.1(a), 61.3, 62.2, 66, A4, A11 and Race Signals AP and S. The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions. The Sailing Instructions may also change other racing rules.
1.5 Amendments to any of the rules applying to the regatta must be approved and signed by the ISA Liaison Officer appointed for the event.
2. Advertising
Advertising including competitor advertising is permitted in accordance with World Sailing Regulation 20 Advertising Code. Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the Organizing Authority.
3. Eligibility and entry
3.1 The regatta is open to all yachts of the International Soling Class as prescribed in Championship Rule 4 – Eligibility.
3.2 ISA Membership is obligatory for all crew members. Membership fees will be collected from any sailor failing to present proof of previously paid membership fee.
3.3 It is also required that all yachts entering display the ISA sticker for the current year. An additional amount will be collected from the helmsman or representative of any yacht not displaying the ISA sticker of the current year at the appropriate position.
3.4 Eligible boats may enter by completing the entry forms on the event website http://na.soling.com and completing registration and payment of all fees.
4. Classification
No classification system or Quota system will be used.
5. Fees
The entry fee will be U$500.00 per boat. It may be paid at the time of online registration via wire transfer ahead of the event or via cash or credit card at MYC. The entry fee includes ISA Championship fees (€ 75); launch and haul-out; mooring; opening reception; one dinner; refreshments; and prizes. Entries made before July 14th will be reduced to U$450.00. 6. Registration
Participants will be registering their boat at http://na.soling.com under the ‘entry form’ tab. All participants and boats must be registered with their national association before registration and participation in the event.
Milwaukee Yacht Club will be open for check in on August 23, 2017 1100-1900. Early check in (required for Milwaukee Bay sailors) will be August 22, 2017 1700-1900.
7. Schedule
7.1 Boats must be in the water by 1900 of August 23, 2017.
7.2 Racing is scheduled as follows:

Aug 24 3 races, beginning at 1100, each race to follow immediately after
Aug 25 3 races, beginning at 1100, each race to follow immediately after
Aug 26 2 races, beginning at 1100, race 2 immediately after
Aug 27 2 races, beginning at 1000, race 2 immediately after
7.3 On the last day of the regatta no warning signal will be made after 1300.
8. Measurement
Yachts will be inspected in accordance with ISA Championship Rule 7.0 Measuring and Class Rules 16 and 17. For a yacht to be eligible to race, her valid (the original or a copy of the original) Measurement Form or Measurement Certificate shall be presented at the Race Office, and the helmsman must have satisfied all measurement and registration requirements as specified in this Notice of Race including the submission (at the completion of measurement) of properly completed measurement work sheets. If the Measurement Form cannot be produced before the first race, RRS 78.2 will be applied.
9. Sailing Instructions
Sailing Instructions will be available at registration.
10. Course Area
Lake Michigan, Milwaukee Bay Area. (Appendix 1)
11. Courses
Standard ISA Championship courses will be used. (Appendix 2)
12. Penalty System
12.1 The One-Turn Penalty.
12.2 An International Jury will be appointed in accordance with RRS Appendix N. Their decisions will be final and not subject to appeal in accordance with RRS 70.5.
13. Scoring
13.1 The Low Points Scoring System of RRS A4 will apply.
13.2 10 races are scheduled of which 4 must be completed to constitute a valid championship.
13.3a) When fewer than 6 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
13.3b) When 6 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

15. Disclaimer of Liability
Competitors participating in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or before, during, or after the regatta.
16. Insurance
Each participating boat shall have adequate insurance cover specifically including third party liability cover while racing of at least 300,000 USD for the duration of the regatta.
