Not far from Nessie's hidden place ... At Fort William, heart of the Scotish Soling fleet and after a month of wind and rain the weekend dawned bright and sunny but without any wind. it was a lengthy wait before the race officer was able to lay a short windward/leeward course. However, four close races were achieved before the strenthening tide and failing wind called halt at the first racing day during the British Nationals.
All the sailors and supporters gathered on Saturday evening for an excellent dinner at a local restaurant which proved to be a cheerful affair, a good way to end the day hearing Gary and Karl tell their intrepid sail around stones during their participation at the World Championship in Norway which the driving probably were longer than the time spent sailing.
On Sunday another long delay and only one race completed but it allowed the local "Ancient Mariner" to sneak a win and the tie break for third place.
GBR 155 Gary Richardson , Karl Sloane and Andrew Ryan were declared worth winners with three wins from the five races. The imidiate followers GBR 157 Keith Falconer, Karen Dean and Ian Fleming were only two points behind with a bullet under their arms at the first race on Saturday.
GBR 161 Hamish Loudon, Victoria Kimber and Vince Dean achiving the last bullet on Sunday, video proof provided below jumped up to complete the podium with same points as GBR 125 Andrew McKenna, Ian Fyfe and Zeemon with the oldest boat in the fleet but with the nicest sails, still with the loft print.
Thanks to Dr James Dougla who had the patience to take the pictures.
