The weekend of May 4th-5th saw 10 Soling from Bergen on the west coast to Tønsberg just across the Oslofjord from Hankø gather in Grimstad for a Tune Up Weekend. Grimstad is one of those cozy south coast small villages in Norway, not far from Arendal who held the 2007 Soling EC. Brilliantly set up and organized by Lars Ingeberg and Southern Fleet Captein August Austefjord and their fellow sailors and family, the visiting boats enjoyed the hospitality and the surroundings. Friday saw an informal gathering at Ingeberg Jått Club, before an early start Saturday with effective launching from a mobile crane.

Top marks and a bottom gate were set and the first session on Saturday saw the fleet matching up and down the course, banking rust of some winter marked boats and crew. Then we gathered for a warm lunch downtown Grimstad. The afternoon session was planned with practice races where a start vessel set us off with a 3 min procedure. One updown and one downwind leg and finishing by rounding a gate mark to upwind tacking course. The racing was tight but friendly. Several boats looked sharp, even though 1984 Olympic helmsman Dag Usterud was showing an edge, looking good before Hankø.

After a good long day of sailing in perfect conditions, we gathered for pizzas at the facilities for the goélette Solrik. A sunny day saw a close battle between the sun and the eyelids of the sailors of who could shine the longest. I guess the sun won that one. For most at least.

Sunday there were again fair winds 2-5m/s and we gathered for some practice races in conditions similar to Hankø, on the outside of the archipelago outside Grimstad. Perfect condition on easing wind conditions where one could test trim at both medium and light conditions. Again strong sailing from Usterud, but Ingeberg and his crew also stepped up the game on the last day for this weekend. As the wind eased further the fleet gathered ashore around 1500hrs for lifting and for some a long drive home
