The Solings had their weekend at the Italian Alps, Lake Rescia (Reschensee) for the already traditional Alpen Cup organized by the SVR. The lake which water level depends on previous winter snow fall, and water needs down in the stream makes it an interesting venue where boats aren't moored but placed at buoys “closer” to the club facilities.
Saturday July 28 the racing started around 11 in the morning right after the thermal breeze from the south came in, not a strong one from 7 to 15 knots variation, two races were held without problems and a third attempted and abandoned before the last leg to the finish due to strong oscillations. The race officer then moved the whole course to a different area of the lake and managed to race two more races, before the announced storm, but sometimes with rain and cold, completing 4 races during the day.
This first day was a full Tedesco day where GER 1 Koch, Hasenclever and Bergk finished at the top overall in a tie over GER 11 Dietzel, Zeileis and Seydl due to better finishes. GER 331 the comeback of Shucky, the Professor Stallhofer and a new member of the squad Mr. Bargallo completed the daily podium.
Sunday started slow again and the wind when it came in it was from the North and gusty, after the first race, the Italian TV came into the lake and made interviews to the Sailors, the german duel in between GER 1 and GER 11 was tight and at some point at the third race a tacking duel sent GER 1 to the right and GER 11 and the left was the favored side, putting GER 11 ahead leaving GER 1 behind and then after this race they were both again in a tie with 10 points, at the third race GER 1 thought they were OCS, returning to start and having a really bad result which later wasn't possible to come back. Also these three first races were a nightmare for GER 331 placing 6th in all of them, but it fitted perfectly to ITA 252 de Amicis, de Amicis and Lombardo who had a second on the second race and a bullet on the third race, managing to finish just behind GER 331 on the last race of the day to keep their place at the podium overall.
This event which counts to the Alpen ranking now will be followed by the Erich Hirt Preis being held at the Bayersiche Yacht Club at lake Starnberg (GER) and then by the Zipfer Trophy at lake Attersee (AUT).
