After a frustrated first day in where the Race Committee were 100% careful due to a German forecast warning of strong winds, the same 80 knots gusts that made the Netherlands harbors a No Zone after its passage, and despite the front only reached the area in late afternoon the bitter taste at the Sailors could be noticed.
Today the second racing day of the event started early at 1100hs, with a first race with still some tale of the strong winds with 18 to 23 knots from the South West, despite all teams eager to go out racing, there first start attempt was a valid one with no over early Solings, boats that went far to the left took and advantage at the rounding mark, only one boat did not start after braking its jib traveler at the pre-start (FRA 164 sailed by Francois Gombeaud, Francois Castagnet and Christian Dousset).
NED 33 sailed by Rudy den Outer, Pauk Knape and Ramzi Souli was sharp today after all waffle caramel cookies consumed these waiting days. They lead the race, lost the lead and recovered the one in a dowind, in an intense dispute with team HUN 1 with Sandor Varjas, Laszlo Kovasci and Gabor Meretei . All the way from Ukraine, team Sail Sharks with UKR 2 Dmytro Yarovyy, Roman Marchenko and Roman Boiko fought hard against CAN 225 sailed by Peter Hall, Martin Zeileis and Max Reisinger and the recent Grundig Hanko winner NOR 131 with Kristian Negaard, Johan Barne and Tomas Mathisen, but this last showing the reason of their result in Hanko and securing the third place. This Europeans is the return of OIympian Swedish sailor Johan Barne, the middle of Hans Wallen for the 2000 games and the middle for Magnus Holmberg in 1996 games.
The Second race saw the wind rotate 20 degrees to the right as forecasted but with an intensity decrease now 14 to 16 knots, but still a few heavy gusts received on the downwind perfect for nice surfing. This was the race for team HUN 1 from the Balatonfured Yacht Club taking the bullet probably as planned in Sandor's brains computer. They won with authority over again the team from the Konelig Norsk Seilforening NOR 131 which this time improved his result in a second just ahead NED 33 that said so, was sweet today. A bitter race for USA 853 sailed by Matias Collins, Andreas Baumuelller and Moritz Strauch when being 4th close in the battle lost the lower shrouds tracks' bolts forcing them to tack and make some provisory fixing using the lines and the jib track ends, but the tack was all to the undesired side, falling into 9th place.
For the third race the wind went even more to the right and increased again from 20 to 25 knots to decrease at the last dowind, and despite great strategy from CAN 225, NED 33 it was NOR 142 with Lars Ingeberg, Bjorn Johanssen and Oysten Sabel who claimed the third place of the race when the top fight was already defined with the first bullet for NOR 131 followed by HUN 1.
Tomorrow Saturday the forecast shows another wind decrease but like today, summer mode with Sun a town of Warnemunde that will rock of tourists and sailors from other classes that show up for the weekend race. The Race Office issued a notice of race announcing the start for 11hs. The afternoon another party is planned for the competitors and its supporters.
